So I had a package "upgraded" to ups without my consent. I received notification that it had an "exception". So I called ups to find out what was going on and was informed that I would have to pay 49.99 to have the shipment released on delivery. After requesting a breakdown in fees was informed that 8.29 are taxes and duties and 41.70 were ups fees. Considering this shipment's total value was under 200 usd. This is another classic example of UPS trying to fleece it's customers with hidden fees and essentially extort people into paying them or risk losing their items.
Luckily I was aware of this kind of practice and was prepared to clear the shipment myself.
I strongly recommend that anyone else with similar experiences file complaints against ups with the BBB as well as
