Ups delivery issues
Melvindale, Michigan
I ordered a couple of items online from different sites but the items mainly ship through UPS.My issue is why is it that UPS waits until it gets dark to start delivering to residential areas?
This is not the first time that this has happened actually I've been through this twice within a 30 day period. I do not like UPS showing up and my doorstep at 7-8pm at night when they start as early as 4:30am.
If it's going to be that long then they should deliver next day.Doesn't make any sense.

It is obvious that you do not understand the package delivery industry. While some UPS employees start at 4:30am, UPS is basically a 24 hour operation. But I won't bore you with those details. The package cars, not trucks, are loaded in the mornings. The start times for each location vary, but the actual delivery doesn't begin until 8:30 to 9:00am. Most, not all, package cars are loaded with a 60/40% split between commercial and residential deliveries. Most, not all have a dedicated pick up run that generally starts around 2:30pm and can last as late as 7:00pm depending on the location. Suffice it to say that most end around 5:00pm.
So the better part of the day is spent delivering the commercial addresses. In many instances, the driver will finish his commercial deliveries around 1:00 to 1:30. Generally, he will take his lunch between 1:30 to 2:30 and then start his pick up run. When he is finished with his commercial deliveries, keep in mind most close at 5:00pm and his pickups he will start his residential deliveries after 5:00pm. Since there is no close time for a residence, he will wait to make service on them until after he has completed all of his commercial work.
The fix to your problem has four choices.
1. You could have your package addressed to be delivered to your place of employment.
2. You could have your package addressed to deliver to a family member.
3. You could have your package held at the UPS customer counter, so you could pick it up at your convenience.
4. You could have your packages delivered have Next Day Air which would ensure your delivery by 10:30am. There is an added cost associated with expedited delivery.
As you are complaining when your driver shows up after dark, at 6:00 or 7:00, keep in mind that you have probably already been off from work for a couple of hours and you are at home enjoying the company of your family or friends.
As the other poster said the delivery times. Also they don't start deliveries at 4:30am the trucks leave at around 8am. Residential usually starts at around 2-3pm and varies by route.
They deliver to businesses during business hours and residences outside of business hours since you are more likely to be at home
