I used to love UPS. We live out in the country in a heavily-treed area and have a 100 ft long driveway winding from the main road up to our house. We can't even see the road from our house for the trees and brush. The driver who USED to deliver in our area always brought packages up to our wrap-around covered porch where they were safely out of the weather and would not be stolen. He would even ring our doorbell! We get UPS deliveries a couple of times per month on average.

Apparently we now have someone new or else our driver has been required to cut back on the time he spends delivering packages. The last three packages we've gotten (all in the last month) have been left out on the main road!

The first was an entire home theater system...in a very large box with pictures on the sides that made it clear EXACTLY what was in the package! It was left sitting next to our driveway right beside the main road...hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise just begging someone unscrupulous to pause for 30 seconds, scoop it up and drive away! Fortunately a friend happened to drive by within an hour or two of the delivery and called us to ask if we were expecting a new home theater system! Two days later a new stereo receiver was delivered, once again in a box with pictures on the side showing exactly what was in the box. This package was delivered beside our next door neighbor's mailbox. Her grand-kids found it and brought it to us. Then, this week, we've been expecting delivery of about $250 worth of medications. After the last two delivery debacles we've been tracking the package. First UPS managed to mis-direct it so that "delivery was delayed" by almost a week. Then, late last night when tracking suddenly indicated that the package had been delivered the day before - tracking updates apparently aren't made instantly either! - we could not locate it. After tramping around in the dark and checking with nearby neighbors and trying futilely to get assistance from UPS Customer Service, we finally located the shoebox-sized box this morning....hidden in the waist high weeds and brush BEHIND our stone mailbox! The outer box was soaking wet and falling apart. Fortunately the meds were in sealed glass and plastic bottles so no real damage.

BUT I am completely fed up with UPS delivery services. We order things online all the time and often don't have any option regarding what delivery service the stores choose to use. But when we do, I'm choosing something other than UPS from now on! To retailers... if you want customers to order online, you HAVE to use a delivery service that can be trusted to get the packages safely to your customers.

Maybe this is just one bad driver and not UPS in general. But if that is the case, UPS's customer service should have an EASY way for customers to complain about poorly delivered packages so that UPS could get rid of bad drivers or at least retrain them. The QUALITY of the delivery matters too...not just how many packages a driver manages to drop off somewhere NEAR the customer's home.

Reason of review: Problem with delivery.

Preferred solution: On the friggin "telephone tree" that customers must go thru, provide an option for customers to complain about POORLY delivered packages where (luckily) no financial harm was incurred. Then get rid of or retrain drivers who do a *** poor job..

I didn't like: Delivery service, No manager to speak to, Packages left exposed to potential theft, Packages needless left exposed to weather.
