UPS out for the money!

Ordered a kindle from a company who chose to use UPS as the postal carrier. They were able to ship from Massachusetts to Long Beach Ca in LESS than a day. But my package has been pigeonholed for almost FOUR days in a facility only an HOUR away from my residence!! Safe to assume that since i didnt spend the extra dime for expedited shipping, i havent "earned" my package sooner than the estimated delivery date. As a business, wouldnt you want an extremely pleased customer rather than a pissed and agitated one? Regardless of whether or not we earned it?? If you ARE going to hoard packages JUST BECAUSE that customer didnt pay for it, then its a BAD idea to offer tracking for that package. As the customer can SEE the fact that that package is being held. Jerks.

its not being held. what you saw is a virtual scan, not a physical one.

it means its on a train en route to you, but not actually there yet. its misleading yes, and frankly i dont even know why they the virtual scans ahead of actual delivery.

if it was actually in CA, its more efficient to get it on a truck and get it delivered then it is to store it in the warehouse and let packages pile up. did you expect to get something for nothing?

Guest

You described UPS with one single word...the very last one you used "JERKS" Unfortunately that is the very reason I avoid them as my carrier of choice whenever possible, but seems I'm not enough!

Maybe you'll be number two!

Our delivery has been sitting at this hub for one week. The Lufkin Texas hub told us that there are no employees at the hub, trailer loads are being held and no possibility of even an estimated delivery date for our merchandise.

I'm getting so many excuses from UPS, that I simply no longer believe what they have to say. This is not the first time this has happened. It seems that something is going on and it's much more than a weather related problem.

Perhaps Fedex can go by their hub and bring our deliveries. Im tired of the list of excuses.

Guest

Yea, the Texas hubs are a joke; especially Mesquite. My package which I paid 3 day delivery for has been sitting in a trailer since the 3rd of February and has not even been scanned in off the truck.

Today is the 8th and still no updates.

The package was shipped on the 1st, and of course no help from anyone at ups customer service. They just don't care.

Guest

Yeah just think, if all 9 people who read this complaint agree to boycott UPS, we'll be able to bring down this multi billion dollar monster!

I lived in North Texas for years. The one snow storm we got shut down the town for about 2 weeks. People down there are completely clueless on how to deal with winter storms.

UPS and the Post office

UPS has contracted with the Post Office to complete some deliveries. If I ask for my package to be sent UPS I want it to arrive that way! I don't want to got pick it up and wait in a long line at the Post Office. It also probably has my residential address on it which the Post Office will claim is undeliverable because it doesn't have my box number on it! This is a cost saving method of delivery offered to the shipper it doesn't help me at all. It usually causes me to become Sherlock Holmes and track my package down. The Post Office is also very unhelpful in resolving issues!

It's called UPS Basic, and yes, the sender requested it, no matter what they're telling you.

Guest

@SteveO- UPS does not hand over the package to the post office when they are told to. I asked the company I ordered from and they said they never would ask that.

I asked UPS and they said it was a way to cut costs and not because the sender is requesting it. Also, why would I take up poor service and lack of communication with the sender instead of UPS? Even if the sender did request that method (which they did not), it isn't their responsibility to hold UPS' hand and track my package alongside them. The sender paid UPS to do a job and they expect them to do that job, period.

I wouldn't complain to UPS that the product I ordered from the sender was sub-par or incorrect. Try ordering something using UPS and then we'll talk.

Guest

I am so annoyed with UPS!!!! I hate them and I want them out of business.

To try and cut costs they are taking away the one service that they offer??? Oh we don't actually deliver packages anymore we dump them at the post office and leave it to you to figure out. So if you paid for overnight shipping, 2 day shipping or whatever don't expect your package, don't expect to be contacted, and don't expect to get anywhere by calling them. I was told that it wasn't in their hands anymore and they just plain didn't know where my package was and oh well too bad.

Finally, after spending an hour and a half on the phone I am told it was actually taken to the post office. Why? No reason at all. Since there are 5 different post offices in the city I live in I then asked which one to which they replied, "oh we don't have that information all we know is it was dropped off at the post office." So I start calling all the post offices looking for my package and shocker no one can find it.

The post office seemed very annoyed, which quite frankly I would be too if another company started dumping their work onto me to take care of. I then decide to call every post office in the yellow pages and finally find my package in a city a half hour away. When I spoke with the post office they were nice and said they had been holding it for a while and were trying to figure out a way to get in touch with me but UPS wouldn't give them anything. One of the mail carriers was about to deliver it himself to me.

They were just as bewildered as I was about the obnoxious behavior of UPS. They knew UPS was trying to cut costs but to dump off a package and give the finger to not only a paying customer but also the people you are making to do your job for you. They don't get paid extra for this *** I spoke with several colleagues who said they had a similar incident and did not want to use UPS ever again.

I would understand if it were a mistake, a one time issue, but it isn't, it's business UPS style. If you want to actually receive your package instead of paying to drive around wasting the day playing detective to get it, do NOT USE UPS EVER!!!

Guest

Take it up with the company you ordered it from. They're the ones who chose that method. UPS only hands it over to the post office if they're told to by the sender.

UPS Does not honor their insurance claims

After selling an expensive item (Chicago Bears Walter Payton Autographed full size helmet) That I purchased Insurance on Friday, July 3, 2009 thru UPS in the amount of a declared value of $2,000.00 at a cost of $34.07 UPS(Tracking#)1z610X754219****41. When buyer received item on July 10, 2009 it was destroyed. Buyer returned item to me on July 13, 2009 in original packaging and original box and put box inside of another box for return shipping and received on July 15, 2009. After receiving item I contacted UPS like I was instructed by UPS Representative to put the claim thru on the insurance but UPS refused to investigate the item and denied claim because it was returned back to me (1st Excuse). After a phone call to UPS's corporate office on July 17, 2009 I spoke to John Kinnary, John advised me to contact UPS's insurance, which is Crawford. I called Crawford on July 17, 2009 and spoke with William Porterfield, William asked me to forward pictures of damaged item and packing material and I did. It took 3 attempts and many phone calls on my end to get any responses from Crawford. Then on July 20, 2009 Charles Reed from Crawford called me to tell me the claim was denied, due to the fact that the bubbles that were used were not big enough (2nd excuse). I contacted BBB in Atlanta, GA and filed a complaint on 7/30/09 on 8/3/09 I received a response from BBB that UPS denied the claim again, because item ". The item was packaged in a plastic container with no cushioning inside the plastic container" (3rd excuse). The helmet is in an acrylic case that is designed to hold it secure.

The packing of the helmet is as follows: The helmet comes in the acrylic case which is protecting the helmet and the autographed. The case which is containing the helmet had bubble wrap and popcorn to cushion the item entirely, which I have pictures of via e-mail to William Portfield due to his request of wanting to see pictures of packing material. At this point I am beside myself. I have also filed a claim with Illinois Attorney General Office "Lisa Madigan". I am hoping someone will hear my case and many others that I found on different pages of the internet and do something about UPS's way of NOT handling claims and making up lies so they don't have to refund peoples money.

Same happened to me for the item I sold on eBay. They always say item was not packed to their packing guidelines.

I guaranty that I pack my items much better than UPS stores.

I have several feedback from happy eBay customers praising my packing. UPS are cheaters and nobody can do anything about.

Guest

UPS picked our obviously damaged pgk and within 12 hours denied our claim. They are crooks in disguise.

Collecting dollars for a service insurance that they rarely deliver on. I have seen UPS drivers throwing packages in their trucks to sort for next deliveries.

Guest

Shipped a jetski motor with ups 4K value I paid for the insurance and my motor wasn't damaged it was missing . The box was cut open with a razor blade and taped back up .

My claim was denied Because of the packaging . Well the packaging Didn't have anything to do with there employees being ******* thieves

Guest

UPS did not do anything for the broken camera I received in the mail a few years ago. It was packaged very secure and with plenty of foam and bubbles.

The camera is a used large broadcast Panasonic worth about $1500 dollars at the time, it came with a padded carrying case around it, made for the camera's protection inside a huge box with a lot of packing material. It came with the box completely damaged and the cameras eyepiece was shatterd, they would have to really bang and toss this around to cause this kind of damage. I opened the package the instant I received it and saw the damages and opened a case, I followed the instructions directly from UPS and sent pictures exactly like they wanted including the damaged box and camera. I called UPS back with a few weeks to check on the status and they said They could not give me any information, they could only give information to the sender.

I was told to look on the website for the status. When I get to the website there is a little progress line that shows status of claim. the first step is claimed opened then claim being reviews then processed and then a payout to the sender not to the receiver. the status never changed for months about a year I would say.

I tried several times to get more information and the ups person would tell me "Sorry sir we cannot give out any information to you as the receiver nor can we do anything else with any of your requests. They kept informing be each time I called the same thing no info and look on the website for the status. I even called the sender a few times to get them to do something and they said UPS has been trying to call me and can not get ahold of me. Never had any messages from UPS and Never got one phone call from them.

So to make a long story short I had to put my faith in the UPS system which to this day about 3years later have not heard from them. I have noticed after about a year the status of my claim no longer exists and I never really new what happened the sender said they never contacted him, he thought it was already approved and paid. Well I then realized it is too late now for any kind compensation. I feel this was borderline criminal activity.

I will Never have faith in UPS again. I wish there was some recourse. They should not be able to get away with this, but obviously they do. They should of at least notified me after numerous times of checking the status of the claim that it was going to expire or end and not just wipe it off the website with no explanation.

I didn't realize they could just hit the delete button and forget about there customer.

This seems so unconventional and illegal when they at least owe an explanation for not paying out the claim.

Guest

I am sorry to hear about the issue you had, but the moment you mention the purchaser returned the item to you before you submitted the claim, it was clear you weren't going to be covered. You paid for insurance to ship the item.

It was received damaged. The claim should have been initiated at that time. But when it was shipped again, I assume it was not insured. UPS has no way to know it was not damaged on the return trip -- how could they?

You can call that an "excuse" but it's a standard business practice. I've had UPS pay out on claims with no problems at all.

I call them the moment I get a damaged item and they have me send pictures of the item and damaged packaging.

Guest

yes UPS must take our packages and just throw *** like there is nothing in it... how long are they going to get away with it..

and in response to MR UPS GUY..

UPS wont even cover damages to merchandise THEY PACKAGE!.. so what is mr ups guys response to that???

They just destroyed a $3000 floatation tank and lost 2 of the 3 items. They are NOW telling me they are only liable for $1 a pound after the rep and website says items are covered up to $25 a pound.

BEYOND PISSED ABOUT IT.

I'll be filing in small claims court and have them served.

They will not send an attorney at an hourly price to show up in court. They will pay for this!

UPS sucks. Ever notice how UPS ground takes about 5 business days yet the package tracking does not get updated between days 1 and 5 because it is sitting somewhere.

They do this just so you pay a ridiculous amount to get it there faster. I ordered a package from Reno NV to be shipped to NH. The package went from Reno to Ontario Canada to New Jersey then to NH.

Does this make any sense at all? How efficient

UPS Delivered Package to Wrong Aparment in Another City

I placed an order on Sephora.com on 2/24/11. It supposedly arrived last night and the UPS tracking site said it was left on the front door. I went out and checked the porch, no package. Then I looked at the tracking history again to see it was delivered to the wrong city (about 15 minutes away from me) but to the same street address and to a wrong apartment number (mine is 4 and they delivered it to J). This is odd because I usually get a note on my door asking for my signature as this is not the only time I have ordered from Sephora. I called UPS and talked to a lady who basically thought I was lying and told me to wait 24 hours and contact the shipper but I called UPS again to get maybe a different person and they were actually helpful and listened to what I said and put a trace on the package. Sephora replaced my order minus some out of stock items which sucks because it was mostly a birthday gift for someone else for this weekend. Last night after I got off the phone, I had thought about just driving to that house but with the way people are these days, they might be a bunch of crazies or something. I might go by there after work tomorrow to at least ask if they have it or what they did with it. I'm just so frustrated that this happened. Like how do you screw up a city that starts with "W" with mine which starts with "B" and how do you screw up "apt j" versus "apt 4"???? I hope I get my original shipment. This just sucks. If anyone has any advice on anything, please feel free to say so. (apologies for the bad grammar or whatever else that may be annoying. i am tired and frustrated..glad i found this site to vent).

This is happening to me as I write this. UPS QC clerk sends the package somewhere totally different.

Where there is now town of a similar name, and about 2 hours north of me in the same state.

You have to contact someone at the center, not the 800 number. But someone at the actual shipment center from where the drivers are dispersed from.

My mail was sent to another city so usps needs to take the initiative to do their job rite!

UPS denies credit, says take up with shop owner

Having called UPS corp office plus emails, I get no reply other then sorry you need to speak with owners shop. The owner store #3991 in the Keys says he requested a reimbursment but it was denied. UPS says no such request and tell me they would have issued the credit if i had called in 15 days of finding out a late delivery. I did call corp and was told they would not get involved, called the shop owner. Just another case of someone else needs to handle this complaint. Long and short, a delivery from the fl. Keys to TN. Sent 1/1/11. promised ground on 1/12/11. NOPE, the pkg gets to TN on 1/17/11. All I asked was a credit or refund. I got no where, not even my formal complaint got any response. $40 for a 4 day delivery that took 10 days. One person said weather. give me a break. 10 days to TN., I can drive it in 2 days with a stop over. oh well. consumer gets it again.

UPS Ground doesn't take 11 days to arrive anywhere in the country, even if you were sending it from the Keys to Seattle WA.

It sounds like you were confused from the beginning. What was the tracking number?

Bogus "emergency conditions" excuse.

I ordered 5 things. 3 to be shipped via UPS, 1 via Fedex, and 1 via USPS. They were all around the same time period, starting January 30th, 1 or 2 days apart more or less. As we all know, there's been that recent winter storm that caused delays in many areas across the states. Fedex and USPS have been absolutely great in terms of delivery; USP is not.

February 2, 2011 was when all of the packages from UPS were supposed to arrive. I paid extra for 2-day shipping. Instead of that, I've only received 1 of the 3 shipments (and that was the last one I ordered, very late in the day). I've also been getting repeated "Out for Delivery" and "Emergency conditions beyond UPS' control" tracking statements one after the other. Not only are their delivery statuses misleading, but the roads have been PERFECTLY clear since that day.

So what's their real excuse? I tried contacting customer support via email and phone and I got were automated replies.

I don't know what this shows -- do they just not care about their customers, or are simply a highly unorganized delivery service?

Based on my Google searches, the probably don't deliver on Saturdays. Which is great...now I have to wait until Monday...

For those who want to talk to a person with UPS customer service. Call the customer service number 1-80*-***-****(US number) and hit 0 at the menus. It will get you to an agent eventually.

Guest

I am also dealing w their ridiculous excuses. I have received the USPS portion of an order from Amazon (and on time!) and have yet to receive my order from UPS.

It is now more than a week late. Their 1-800 number is useless.

All I get is a busy signal. Thanks for nothing, UPS.

Guest

I ordered a few things from Amazon.com. It was split in 3 shipments.

FedEx part is here. USPS part is here. UPS drivers apparently can't drive in snow so part of my order is "Out for Delivery" and later "Emergency conditions beyond UPS' control". If they had customer service one could speak to I would be happy to meet the driver at the coffee shop or even pick my shipment up at the terminal.

I’m old but I’m not incapacitated by 2 inches of snow. My shipment has been within 15 miles of my home for 5 days but I still don’t have it. I’m very disappointed in the United Parcel “fair weather” delivery service.

Had I known in advance I would only order things in nice weather. Maybe it’s time to replace the shorts with long pants.

UPS no attempt to deliver overnight

I had a pkg overnighted from Kentucky to HI for $38 via UPS. Pkg was not delivered the next day. I was told that there was no apartment number on the pkg. I had it delivered to my office. No apartment numbers, just a customer service desk inside the front door. Driver obviously did not even enter the building to attempt delivery. I had a pkg overnighted 2 weeks ago via FedEx and it arrived in the office 18 hours after pick up in North Carolina. UPS pkg was not only late, but not even on the truck for delivery the following day. They wanted to delivery three days later while charging me overnight rates. I had to pick the pkg up because it would not wait three days (thus my shipping it overnight. They made no attempt to call recipient or shipper for clarification. When I picked up the pkg, delivery vans still had not left and when I asked why my pkg was not going out for delivery they told me it still had not corrected the address for delivery. My office is less than 2 miles from where I picked up the pkg. I will never ship UPS again regardless of price. I am paying more so that I know it gets here.

Destroyed package insured for 500.00 and havent paid me for it

In Oct 2010, I sent a retirement shadow box seachest to a fellow Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, I insured it for $500.00 and shipped to Washington state, tracking # 1ZW8434Y033442****. When he received it he could tell by the condition of the shipping box that it had been destroyed. We followed all the claims process to get reimbursed for it and still to this day have not received anything. This retirement box was made of special wood from his grandfathers seachest, and contained a his fathers burial flag. It has been 5 months and I havent heard anything!

What a bunch of non-helpful people!

I ordered football jerseys for the family for the whole family. Paid the extra money to have the jerseys delivered BY wednesday! (plenty of time before game). Its now Friday, & they just updated the tracking info that the package will now arrive MONDAY!!!! How useless are football jerseys the day after the superbowl!!!!! The package arrived at a nearby center at 1130am friday morning, but the service rep tells me that the package is in some kind of crate and wont be precessed until monday! Here is the best part! I was even willing to go pick it up, but that is against procedure!!! You would think some UPS supervisor, KNOWING the packages are already two days late, would shake a leg and make sure the packages are expedited to the customers!!! And the worst of it, is now I have to wait to receive the package, then spend MY TIME to return the thing!!! Thanks a Lot UPS!!!! Really Appreciate how you do business!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same problem today. Just don't use UPS they are a bunch of inconsiderate unfocused service people who are just happy to give you the runaround and make it as difficult as possible to complain and accept no responsibility (after all you are the customer BUT in the wrong) - please direct complaints to Bin 13!! They don't have a service manager or at least one who cares and is prepared to be known!!

Guest

They have suspended our account without notice because we owe them a small amount of money, despite our trying to resolve a dispute for nearly eighteen months! We also agreed a credit which would have seen this put to bed but they have reneged on it. Worse than that, they are holding shipments due to be delivered to us as leverage, so our suppliers are understandably furious.

They are the worst parcel company in the World and I would urge everyone to use someone else.

UPS HUNT!!!

So I had two packages delivered. The first package got dropped by my mailbox and the website claims it was delivered. The second it was left infront of my apt building and the same thing. If you are home you the both times you think a delivery man will know to at-least to ring the bell...no words can describe how *** I am. I am so happy that I pay UPS to deliver my package, which i have to go on the hunt for including staying at home for them not to ring the bell.....I looked at their website and there is a lil question mark that claims it is at the drivers discretion to deliver the packages in "safe places", I don't think in front of a large building is a "safe place" and can you believe their is no way to make a complaint........never use them again........I am just happy that my ups hunt was successful and i got my packages

UPS is the worst company in history!

I think all of America should boycott UPS until when and if they reform their despicable business practices. Today is just the latest in a long string of shoddy business practices by UPS. I have been waiting for a package that was supposed t be delivered 10 days ago, still not here. Called every day and assured with 100% certainty the package is en route and will be delivered today. Still no package. When my father died last year, I shipped some of his belongings to my home and insured each box for $500. When they arrived items were shattered in each box. I filed a claim with UPS and they denied covered because they said "I didn't package the box appropriately" although each item was individually wrapped in bubble wrap and filled the box with peanuts. This should be illegal.

Damaged Packages - Shoddy Delivery Practices by UPS

I purchased a computer battery back-up from a reputable mail order house. It was shipped by UPS. The unit arrived looking like it was used as the ball in the World Cup. Needless to say it was damaged beyond use. It was returned and the seller shipped a second unit, delayed payment, which arrived in worse condition than the first. It too was returned, this time for a refund. I needed a new hard drive, so I ordered one from another outfit. When it arrived, the UPS driver walked to within ten feet (approx) of my front door and threw the package in the general direction thereof. This was witnessed by three people, but before the driver could be confronted he was in his truck and speeding off. Fortunately the hard drive was undamaged although the box took a beating. UPS has a serious problem with its delivery personnel. It might just be this regional, but one would think that they would cherish their jobs in this horrible economy with double digit unemployment. Please comment.

@ rick.... order something fragile & watch them throw it on your driveway & see how you feel.

UPS should be banned from shipping fragile items ! I had a 32" flat screen shipped from Amazon and picked it up at a UPS center.

When the counter person carried it out, he didn't take any notice of a built in handle, grabbed the box wrong & it fell to the floor.

I had to open the box & inspect it right there before I would accept it. They are horrible !

You should not be allowed to throw a package, however it must be packaged to be able to withstand a "safe drop" which is about three feet.

No rick, you shouldn't be able to throw anything on or off a truck. Some items are fragile, rick, and can be easily damaged by carelessness on the part of the carrier regardless of how well they are packaged. Perhaps you are willing to accept shoddy delivery, but I agree with Prophet.

you should be able to throw a box. they get tossed to and from trucks all the time in the loading and unloading process, as is the case with any carrier, postal, fedex etc. sounds like that reputable company you ordered it from doesn't know how to package things.

50 percent failure

50 percent failure 6 boxes shipped to potential investors, each containing a prototype that took us weeks to build. I personally packed each as if it was nitroglycerin. Box 1 arrived with no external damage, although a well-protected part was broken in half. I did not file a claim on this one. Box 2 arrived with no external damage, although the packing material was missing, the product had been disassembled and its parts were scattered throughout the box. I filed a claim but their making me jump through hoops, asking for pictures, the invoice, a packing list, their tracking number, my account number and my shipper ID, all of which I've been mailing one at a time because each time they get what they asked for they ask for something more. I'm mailing these because after spending an hour trying to send it using the electronic link they emailed, I called only to find out it doesn't work. Box 3 arrived looking like a used piñata, the bubble wrap I personally wrapped around and taped to the prototype was gone, the prototype disassembled and its parts were scattered through out the box. I filed a claim and UPS sent a driver out to inspect it. A couple days latter a UPS customer service rep. called, she said, "I'm sorry your box was damaged in shipment, unfortunately your claim has been denied because the box you used does not meet UPS standards." The confirmation email stated the box was not strong enough to hold the 8-pound item. The other 3 arrived without damage. A few days latter they emailed 4 credit card adjustment notices, 3 dimensional weight adjustments ($22.16, $13.00 $16.22), and 1 address correction charge ($10.00). All 6 boxes were clearly marked 18x18x16, but UPS measured 19x18x17, 18x17x17 and 19x18x17. After several back and forth emails they issued credits on 2, they're not retuning my emails regarding the other 2. Concerned that one of their employees was stealing my invention, I called customers service, after telling my story, the rep. said "Sorry your boxes were damaged in shipment, you can file a claim on line or if you like I can help you." Sensing I was upset he transferred my call to a higher-up. After telling her my story she said, "Sorry your boxes were damaged in shipment, you can file a claim on line or if you like I can help you." UPS gets away with this because they can, if one of my customers complains I fix it, when theirs complain they say "Sorry…can't do anything for you, it's ok if you fire us, our system is set up to make more money with less customers. If only there was law firm willing to after these crooks and make them pay back the millions they're stealing from us with their fraudulent measurements and insurance fees for claims they deny at their discretion. Isn't it a crying shame our only recourse is posting UPS Sucks stories, I'm posting mine hoping it will help me get over it and go on to more important matters, like finding a few potential investors to replace the ones UPS lost.
