UPS delivered an opened package to an untrustworthy neighbor

I ordered a product from Amazon and the UPS driver delivered it to a neighbor I do not trust, leaving a note on my door. I never gave permission for UPS to give my packages to that neighbor. I am now reluctant to order anything that might be delivered by UPS. The tracking number is 1Z 13F1 9A4 03 9902 2995. That neighbor opened the package to see what was in it. In the future I would like UPS to hold any undeliverable packages at UPS for me to pick them up. Nothing was lost or damaged, but this neighbor might continue to tamper with future UPS deliveries since she does not work and is home all day. Her name is Adela. I can't understand why the UPS driver would arbitrarily give her my packages. Yes, not only am I pissed off, but alarmed--now that Adela has succeeded in interfering with my deliveries, she will continue.

i also had this occur in a different city. though my neighbor didn't open it, still, it was an unauthorized alternate delivery. I had to wait for her to get home, and then ask her for the package. :roll

I called to complain about this, and ups first told me they aren't supposed to deliver to others unauthorized; then i got a callback and the 2nd guy says they often do this. so i told them they shouldn't as they have no clue as to the character or relationship of the neighbor! for all they know they could be desperate druggies who will run down to the local pawn shop with your goods. For all they know it isn't really the neighbor but their guest or babysitter. :(

This is the only time this has happened to me, and interestingly, it was also a delivery from Amazon.

I think Amazon has a cut rate contract with ups so ups cheaps out on the deliveries. they don't want to return for 2nd attempt to deliver, etc. as it costs them more to do this.

my advice is to call ups and complain, ask them to stop this practice altogether, and tell them to mark your name and address as one who they shouldn't do this type of alternate delivery for, but they should get your authorization on the door sticky note as to what type of delivery you will take.

I think you can specify Fedex or some other delivery service for your mail order products. I certainly would. UPS isn't nicknamed "oops" for nothing!

UPS in San Diego, California - Nice way to bone a good customer

My yearly tab with UPS is around $300-500,000. I shipped a 2nd day package Wednesday to arrive Friday in San Diego for a trade show. It got put on the wrong truck (WTF!) and didn't make it. It's in San Diego now (Saturday), but they refused to deliver it SINCE I HADN'T PAID FOR SATURDAY DELIVERY. Um, no. I paid to have it HERE BY FRIDAY. There is a Monday 8:00 delivery, but they refuse to deliver it then SINCE I HADN'T PAID FOR EARLY MONDAY DELIVERY. They have said that we might - might - get it Monday afternoon. Well, thanks. That's after the show is over. Seriously, WTF?

lol, you claim a loss of 10k.

you don't do anywhere near 500k a year in shipping with ups, if you did you would know their policies. more likely you are an ocassional shipper. i doubt ups will miss your $10 per month shipping.

btw if your packages were late you are entitled to a refund of your shipping cost. again, something you would know if you shipped frequently. tool.

Yes, it was a hand-built printing press inking system prototype. $10,000 is merely the material cost, not the actual value. You *do* realize that expensive equipment is shipped UPS, right? The fact that you think shipping $10,000 is not possible is hilarious. Just two weeks ago, a $50,000 sensor came in for me via FedEx.

craigy-poo, you do realize that an item that is worth $10k and arrives late does not mean you suffered a $10k loss, right?

yep, your a real genious, sweetheart.

UPS in Chicago, Illinois - "We're not perfect." Was the response they gave me

I paid for 2 day shipping and specifically authorized them (online) to leave at my place without my presence. They don't leave it and say it "looked suspicious" and won't tell me why. Then they don't call me back in time after I tried to get it delivered that same day. So I give a different address and my boyfriend stays home ALL DAY that day (day 3) and they don't even ring the buzzer or leave a note (they clearly did not try) and say another missed attempt because no one was home, even though someone was! That night they said they would see if they can "fit it into their schedule" to deliver that night. They said they would bring it to the original address. Then they called and said that the driver actually brought it to the secondary address and didn't tell anyone. No one was home there, so next morning (day 4) boyfriend went to check and there was no package. I called UPS infuriated accusing them of stealing my package and they said "you know, we're not perfect. If our driver doesnt attempt to deliver a package or steals it, we will look at his history and if there are repeated attempts we can follow up but if this is just one time, I mean it's not a big deal." This tells me everything i need to know about your company... that one screw-over of a customer doesnt matter unless it happens again.

You have to love Dark Shaft. He has never posted a complaint but stalks these boards screaming at people who complain about UPS. I'm guessing based on his rage issues and lack of education that he's a driver for them.

rage? nah, just no appreciation for clueless people, such as yourself.

but, hey, l see by your avatar, you like to release your issues with fido on your lap. weird, dude.

yet if they had left your package at some sketchy place and it disappeared you'd be here crying about it being stolen. i suspect you just like to complain.

hint, quit changing when, where, and how you want things delivered. ***

One thing I found out with UPS is that you can go to UPS and personally pick up a package that may be at the local terminal but hasn't been delivered. That said, I've also had my problems with UPS and would much rather use Fedex.

UPS in Walnut Creek, California - Are you kidding me?

Ordered some film for my camera off Amazon yesterday and got Next Day Air shipping. Contacted Amazon about two hours after the purchase to see if they would contact UPS so I can pick up my package (today). Get home from work and head out to the UPS location that tracking sent to me. Arrive at 5:15PM, store closes at 6:00PM, store clerk tells me that the item isn't at the location yet but that I can come back on Monday. I told him that I ordered Next Day Air for a reason and if there was any possible way I can get my order. He tells me that the location opens back up at around 8:00PM that night, I asked him if he was sure and he said he was positive. I left but got in contact with UPS customer service and they mentioned that that's not possible and I have to come back on Monday. Are you kidding me? I'm fine with waiting, there's nothing I can do about it but having the guy tell me to come back later while the store is closed...

UPS in Oakhurst, California - Climax Technology

I order parts and UPS delivery almost daily. I used Overnight shipping for a small item I needed the next day. It went out and arrived in Fresno that night. It left the Fresno distribution center at 7:48AM in the morning. We are 1 hour away and I know the trucks stops along the way. It is now 3:30PM and no shipment yet. The driver will come after my business hours (5:00-7:00 PM) to make the delivery. Why should I pay the $60 for a 2 Oz. item and then it takes 2 business days to arrive because it takes 9 hours after it leaves the distribution station? They say you are ina outlying area. All delivery services trucks come to our town by 8AM, but no deliveries yet. BS. Gene Choin

so basically you're saying it's midway through the day and you didn't get your package first. boohoo.

the day's not over, wait your turn and if for some reason it doesn't arrive then you are entitled to a refund.

easy. why do you think you're special?

You are saying it was out for delivery at 7:48 AM ?

How do you figure that ?

Drivers do not even leave the building until 8:30 or 9 AM

What you say makes no sense.

IF it was on a truck and a driver left the building at 7:48 AM, and you are an hour away, how do ALL delivery trucks get to you by 8AM ?

Not everyone can be first in line, why do you think you should be ahead of everyone else ?

UPS Destroyed 4 of my Govt Radios

UPS Damage: The radios that I ship are heavy but very well packed. They are government units which are insured. The 4 damaged radios were separately shipped at different times. The damage is always the same. The boxes have been thrown or dropped. The radio chassis are bent and external hardware damaged. Sometimes the internal parts are also damaged. The boxes are clearly marked with red labels "Electronic Material, Don't Drop Don't Crush". The four inches of foam, cardboard caps, and boxes are completely destroyed on all ends. I am not having any problems with other shippers. This is a UPS problem and it started happening 2 years ago. Now I use them only when a customer demands UPS shipping. It takes about 30 days to get a claim paid and there communication is terrible. It is almost impossible to reach someone who can answer specific questions.

If you have to write "Don't Drop" or "Don't Crush" on the outside of the box, then you haven't packed them well enough. A properly packed box can be dropped.

And other boxes, even heavy ones can be stacked on top of it. I teach people how to do it correctly and nothing ever breaks for them again.

UPS - I do not exist

Package was sent UPS 3/27 from Dubai had not arrived by 4/23. UPS website less than helpful,Athens reckon I don't exist. Tracking showed it had got holed up in Athens. I have seen original sender label(as a pdf) which has my correct name, address and telephone number....and they still cannot find me. I get packages from DHL/Fedex?TNT fine, no problem. UPS US says on livechat they can do nothing, I should contact UPS Greece (why can't they????????) I was not impressed by the support, the website nor livechat (they expressed sorrow that I had been let down and hoped to serve me better in the future.....JOKE.UPS generally is not good. UPS Greece is trash.

UPS, outright dishonesty coupled with extraordinary rudeness

I ordered some products from Amazon, and most important among them was a client's computer. Upon checking my tracking, I see that my package was to be delivered on time. The day goes by and no UPS. I check the tracking again and it read, "The customer was not available on 1st attempt. A second attempt will be made." I found that odd, seeing as how there was no knock on my door all day or a UPS note. Well I waived it off and said to myself, they will be here tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and goes, no package (a UPS truck was not seen in my neighborhood all day). I check the tracking again, "The customer was not available on second attempt. A third attempt will be made." At this point, I am pretty pissed off. I get on the phone with UPS support and you know what they told me? "I am sorry to hear about that sir, sometimes, our drivers won't complete their routes before the day is up so they can go home early. They log the rest of their packages in the manner you saw on your tracking information." Are you kidding me? As a customer service representative, you are outright telling me that this delay of service was due to the drivers incompetence and unwillingness to complete his route on a Thursday and Friday night? He shyly agreed and began to stutter his way through another apology. I asked for a manager. The manager said EXACTLY what the previous rep said and also added that he could nothing for me. I told him that I wanted the number for my local UPS warehouse. He presumed to tell me that he doesn't have that information but he could arrange for someone to call me from that location on Monday. I commented on his uselessness and then hung up the phone. Monday comes around (the day I am writing this review) and I get a call at 8:00AM from UPS and don't answer. The voice mail left on my inbox was left by Heather, who I assume to be someone in charge of customer service at this local facility. She explains that in the driver's personal notes he states,"Incorrect gate code for entry." I called her back once I got to my office about an hour later. We spoke casually about the incident for the first two minutes and then she asked me what the gate code was so that she can pass it on to the driver, she also said there was a code in the system but for whatever reason, she couldn't see it (she even said, "It's ***, I know"). Little did she know, I spoke with my landlord and CONFIRMED that the gate code had not been changed. I also confirmed that he had received UPS packages just the week before. See our landlord doesn't hand out the gate code to residents in order to preserve the privacy of the complex (we all use clickers), a policy of which I agree with. I tell her that we are not given the gate code and she immediately outbursts," Well that's the problem right there!" To which I replied, no it is not. We have received packages here before without a problem so why now would the driver suddenly have problems getting into the complex considering that I confirmed the code hasn't changed? To me, it sounds as though the driver never actually made an attempt to enter the complex, as your national rep so boldly pointed out, this is apparently a common occurrence. She then tells me that national UPS customer support does not know what they are talking about and not to listen to them. I started to laugh and asked, you are both a part of the same company are you not? I then told her that I don't appreciate her rudeness and blatant disrespect to my intelligence. I told her she needs to fire the driver and hire a competent one. To which she said, "Well, I am just going to put in the notes on this order that the customer failed to provide me with gate code. Thank you, have a great day. CLICK." I will never be shipping through UPS again. Apparently, they value their customer's business very little. Their false conviction allows them to have no problem being dishonest and unnecessarily rude to the people who keep who pay for their service. If you are reading this, it is probably because you had a similar situation with UPS. Do yourself and the rest of us a favor, spread the word. IF we don't express our negative experiences with UPS, they will never change or rightfully find themselves out of business. I am still waiting for my package right now and highly doubt that it will be delivered. Meaning, I will have to drive to the warehouse myself to pick it up. And if it is delivered, it proves the driver had been deliberately negating his responsibilities. Spread the word.

UPS - Stole mdse but signed delivery with "MAX" name

Late January / early February 2013, I won an eBay auction. The seller, Stephen, mailed it UPS. It NEVER arrived. BUT the tracking info said, "Signed for by MAX" There is NO MAX !! Only Dan, Jo, Angel & Connie!!! UPS STILL (April 2013) INSISTS pkg WAS delivered. And I told them that this delivery guy is a thief. I didn't get my Chase Visa card either: ALSO sent UPS and also signed for by "MAX". This guy needs to be fired and I need to get paid back for the $66 bucks I spent and got ZERO to show for it.
