Delivery person couldn't find my building which is 3 blocks away from their warehouse.

Since the delivery person couldn't deliver the package I asked to pick it up. So I get to the warehouse and the lady asked my ID, I show my driver's license, and she demands a bill that goes with the address the package is being delivered to. I don't pay my work bills, so that was impossible. I ask to see a manager and she says, there no manager and there're no supervisor, you deal with me. I spent 4 hours dealing with customer service and they were unable to help, saying if you want to have your package rerouted it's going to cost you. I will avoid UPS for the rest of my life. Try to do the same.

Signature was required but they delivered anyway

I had a package stolen from my house that was worth over $200. I reordered the item and requested that a signature be required for delivery, as I cannot sit home all day waiting for this package, and I was planning on having to go to the UPS dispatch to pick it up. The driver decided to leave the package on my doorstep again even though a signature was required and I was not home. It was of course stolen again, and when I called UPS to complain their representative said that it was my fault and would not concede that I was in the right to think that requiring a signature for delivery has any bearing on what the driver actually does. He said that, "it is up to the driver if he wants to follow that, its his discretion." Why even have this option if lazy drivers can just disregard it because they don't want to carry the package back to their truck. UPS has been excruciatingly painful to deal with and if I have my way I, and all of my friends, family, Facebook friends, twitter followers, and anyone else who will listen will NEVER use UPS again. This has been the worst customer service I have ever dealt with and if I do not get a satisfactory response from someone at the company I will have no choice but to sue. UPS is a common carrier so you have a fiduciary duty to make sure what I am asking you to do gets done. This was not the case and I can prove it.

Humph! All this *** reminds me of an experience I had with a moving company once.

When I looked at the paperwork, the man in charge of the crew that did the moving assessed all of my stuff as "damaged" in some way shape or form. Deny it or not, but I KNOW that he did that just to cover the company's butt in case any damage did occur during the move.

Guest

Thats what I thought but the package weighed 14 pounds and I would bet the driver didn't want to carry it back to the truck. No one signed for the package that I can tell on the UPS website even though it says it was delivered at 1:44pm on that day.

I got home at 7 and it was not there, called the UPS hotline and the guy said that its "up to the drivers discretion if they want to follow that checked box requiring the signature or not." I asked him to clarify and he repeated this phrase a few times, then I asked to speak to his manager and he said he couldn't do that and I had to file a missing package report with the company I ordered the package from.

Effectively, UPS is not at fault at all, in his, and the corporation's mind.

Correct. Simply writing signature required on the box does nothing.

You have to pay for that service ahead of time when creating the shipment. No fraud on UPSs part.

Miklos Miq

No, as "Wanda" stated, it is impossible to have a signature required and leave it without a signature.

Guest

The first question to ask is

"What is the name of the person who signed for it?"

What does the tracking history show?

ups.com track a shipment.

A driver CANNOT leave a package without a signature when one is required, the delivery board will not close out the stop without a signature, which means the driver cannot record another stop in the board until the existing stop has been finished.

The tracking history will help shed more info on this, as what we have is not enough to work with.

I had a package delivered yesterday.... but it was to the wrong house.

A block away on a different street. The driver left it on their steps. I do live in a little town and thank god the people knew me and called me this morning. It had signature required on it because it was a very expensive item.

When I went online to track it today to see what it said... The status is that it was delivered yesterday and signed for with my last name.

Huh... I know the people that found it on their doorstep didn't sign for it so I guess the driver did.

Damaged cargo

I work on the road 350 days a year and I ship my luggage from job ti job to save time and space in my vehical. I shipped my luggage three days before I left for north dakota. They lost my package then shipped it to me showing up over 2weeks late. The when I opened it almost all my stuff was broke. I called their claims and no one could help me. I had over 2000$ worth of stuff broke from my brandnew laptop to my ps3. Not happy with any of this, I will never ship amother thing with ups.

Pick up location very far away, not open on weekends

I was not able to take time off work to be home for the delivery of my package, and the other option was to pick up the package myself from their location. The location was over 45 minutes away and wasn't open on weekends, so I had to rush after work and fight rush hour traffic to pick up a package that I'd paid to have delivered to me. It was completely inconvenient. And I live in Toronto, Canada's largest city. I cannot believe that is the best UPS can do. Surely I should be able to request that it be delivered to one of their locations closer to me.

UPS failed to deliver, not once, not twice but 3 times!!

My next-day UPS delivery was scheduled for Weds 9Oct but unfortunately I was at work so the driver left a UPS InfoNotice. He didn't bother to fill out any of the blanks, just left a note stuffed in the letter box. I called their office on Weds evening and spoke to their helpdesk, changed the delivery address and asked them to deliver on Thursday 10 Oct. Rescheduled for Thur 10 Oct no-show! Rescheduled for Fri 11 Oct no-show!! Rescheduled for Mon 14 Oct no-show!!! UPS failed to deliver on 3 occasions, the local office made false statements and now they refuse to return my calls. Probably the worst courier company in the world.

Package delivery

I ordered a pkg from QVC and UPS would not leave it at neighbors apt even though it was in next bldg. When I went to UPS facility I was told that it was at drivers discretion to leave it not., so instead of leaving pkg UPS came to my apt 3 times and could have left pkg on second trip. It was a wedding gift and I couldn't get it in time to leave for wedding. This is lousy service from a company that I have trusted for over 40 yrs. From now on it will bEe FEDEX OR USPS.

do you think the driver can just go to 2 addresses for 1 package? That's not a cost effective or productive way to operate a business. You could have paid for the reroute to the alternate address, problem solved.

Guest

The UPS driver has no responsiblity to leave a package other than where the label indicates. It is not a choice for him.

Knowing you wouldn't be home, you as the reciever could have made arrangements to have it held for pick up at the hub, or at a UPS Store. Regardless I am sorry it didn't make the wedding.

Package Went Out For Delivery and I Never Got It!

I ordered two items from the same place within the same order. Both items shipped at the same timw but in separate boxes, but the tracking info was the same. I got part of the order on November 1 since I paid for overnight shipping. I waited all day for the second box which had a status of "out for delivery". I called ups after it hadnt arrived by 9pm and they assured me it was guaranteed to be delivered that day. Long story short the item never arrived. When I checked the status in the morning it jow read "in transport". When I called ups, I was transferred all over the place and even hung up on. They never once could find a reason why the package wasnt delivered. All they could say was that I would have to wait until monday since the facility was closed for the weekend. Thanks ups...I should have known better than to trust your services. They could not have been more rude and unhelpful if they tried. Im extremely upset and disappointed with ups!!!

Don't trust delivery times

Do not trust the delivery times on your notices! At first my delivery time told me by end of day(7:30pm) so I made arrangements to be home all day. Then my tracking status was changed to between 3pm and 7:30pm so I ran out and got a haircut, was gone for 45 minutes, and came back to find that they tried to deliver it at 12:37! To top it off I authorized them to leave it at my door via MyUPS and I was told that "it was at the drivers discretion". Now I have to wait till tonight around 8pm to go pick it up myself! With todays technology and instant updates they still can't get it right!

Driver Forgot to drop off my package

I ordered a package for next day delivery never received it. I was furious with my vender. I received the tracking number and seen the package was sent. notes on the status stated customer not available on 1st attempt. I checked my cameras to find that the driver pulled up to my driveway never got out of the car. got distracted by a pedestrian and started a 15min conversation then drove away. To top it off he was honked at by an employee trying to get into my drive way. he pulled forward and continued his conversation. I called customer service spoke to a manager and was told someone will call me back. 3hrs later still no call and no package. WTF are they doing????

Driver No - Shows

UPS should be called United Pissey Service. I just recently moved to an apartment building downtown. I shop on line often and UPS is the service that most online companies use. Almost every week, I'm calling customer service because the drivers usually won't show up. Of course calling the call center is a joke, and I usually have to go get my packages because UNITED PISSEY SERVICE wont deliver them. They lie and say that they tried to deliver. The funny thing about that is, the building I live in has security cameras on the inside as well as the outside. When I tell customer service the phone goes silent. Rating them would be unfair since there are no negative minus one to choose from.

Feel your pain! I too live in an apartment with cameras and have sat all day waiting on packages that never arrive, but yet i get a delivered notice on the web. Their new lazy trick is to bulk drop them at the Apartment Managers office.....I guess they consider that delivered...pretty lame actually.

No refund

I order some stuff for 1 day shipping. They never told me I would need a signature. I thought they would just drop it off at the door, but no they took it back and said they cant give me back the one day delivery refund because they tried to deliver it. RIP OFF! They try to tell me they'll try again the next few days, but I will be gone all the times they would drop it off. I only have a bike and can't go pick it up myself (beats the purpose of a delivery)UPS sucks. They pretty much *** people out of shipping money. Hopefully I can get my stuff because I ordered one day shipping for a reason! They were presents for someone's birthday! UPS can go burn in ***.

Ups has nothing to do with how you selected to have it shipped. Ups had nothing to do with the shipper deciding to make it a signature required delivery.

The shipper could just as easily selected basic, which is an automatic driver release, no signature required, even if you lived in an undesirable release area. Ups did everything they were paid to do by the shipper, take it up with them

Guest

Think about this.

The party you ordered the item from put a signature required on the shipment.

Had the other party informed you of this at the time you ordered it, you would have been able to advise them that no one would be home and to leave it without a signature.

If they insisted on a signature, you could have had it sent to a different address where it could have been signed for.

UPS followed the Shipper instructions for a signature in this case they did nothing wrong.

Your anger is better to be directed at the shipper who insisted on a signature.

Let me see if i get this straight in my mind? You wont pay the claim ? and you wont give me the contents? and - You wont pay the claim ? wow should have read the internet complaints and not waisted my time

In response to the person that said we never pack correctly? I understand what you are saying and agree..

We are an international shipper - usually 7 - 15 shipments per day. In 33 years only 3 boxes have have an insurance claim filed--- all were denied- Believe me when I say they were packed well- the one in question now - was in the approved manufacturers shipping box and then added an extra larger box with shipping noodles to ptotect- UPS said this was not packed well- they say box was destroyed and they could not return- so how am I to prove the evidence they are saying? still they wont pay the claim- UPS disgruntled employee?

Nope these people that deliver/ pickup here are on a first name basis.. They are just telling us what they have seen over these many years

Miklos Miq

You people are cheap and don't know how to pack things. That is why claims are denied.

If you go to a UPS Store they ask to repack it to ensure it will arrive or your money back for a replacement item. It probably costs $5 to repack it in a new box, but you refuse. The original packaging is not properly packed. Factory packaging is to make it from the store to your car, and from your car to your house.

Not to be shipped along with millions of other packages. Ps, before I get a dozen replies saying "I am just a disgruntled UPS employee!" I am not a current, former, nor future UPS employee!

Nick most of the time you are right- kindly read my addition in the actual blog - Know that by factory packaging I would mean the factory shipping container- example - a Dell computer shipped to you with molded styrofoam etc....read again what I posted

I have had this account with them for 33 years last year we spent $4900 on freight with them . They just don't care

Unbelievable!

Several of our family members have also had problems in the last few years. Regardless of the story they don't feel they are at fault. Recommend writing to the BBB, if you put it on a charge card you may be able to call them and reverse the charge. Good luck... and buyer beware.

How foolish and short sighted :upset of them to treat people like this, they are ruining their reputation!

Rude customer service/package sent back to shipper

I received in the mail that I had a package waiting for me at UPS, but I had only two days to pick it up. It's impossible to pick up a package when the store is open 8 AM to 7 PM, but your shift starts at 7 AM to 7 PM. The lady at the counter was rude and condescending. When I called customer service, she advised that I had not responded to their notice, and I explained to her that I did not have enough time to respond. The only advice I got was have the shipper resend the package. Thanks UPS for the great customer care!

You didn't get a notice on your door each time a delivery attempt was made?

If you had responded to any of those notices, you would have had ample time to make other arrangments.

In this case it is YOUR fault for waiting until the last minute.

They didn't get a notice. Didn't you bother to read the post? So in this case it was your fault your post was incorrect.

UPS destroyed my computer and refuses to fix it

I was moving back home from Vancouver, WA and shipped a very expensive computer used for 3D Animation. I declared the value of the computer, and although I was a little hesitant as the woman at the UPS store seemed like she was in training, I paid the 200.00 shipping fee and flew back home to Missouri. Upon delivery the boxes corners were smashed in, the foam peanuts were 6 inches from the top of the box, and the tape was barely hanging on. When I removed the computer I heard something rattling inside, which was both Hard Drives broken loose from the rails and had been bouncing around destroying the motherboard and Video Card. Upon calling UPS they wanted me to get a 3rd party estimate on repair which I did. The total came to $1,394.16 which replaced the hardware, recovered data on the hard drives, and the labor. 3 weeks later UPS is saying that the data recovery, which was quoted right around $600.00 for both drives, is not covered and they refuse to pay it. So I have been out of work for 3 weeks and they are not wanting to fix the package to 100%... Horrible company, as much as I hate FedEx it looks like I am going there instead from now on.

Let me assess the situation. Did The UPS Store pack it or did you.

I am assuming you, as you said you paid the "shipping fee" no mention of packing.

If the store packed it and you insured it for the total value of $1400, then you're covered. I'd expect about a month and a half before you receive the settlement check, but you're covered. If the hard drives were damaged, then you're entitled to a new one.

However, they don't have to pay for data recovery as I'm assuming this is your complaint. Files don't cost anything! They damaged property, not invisible data!!!

I understand your being upset, but why didn't you back up your data on an external hard drive and take that with you in your luggage? The same goes with FedEx and the USPS!!!

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Miklos Miq

excuse me, but data definitely has value. it's not system files, which can be restored and reinstalled; it's someone's animation creations. it is a result of their own work and has assessable value and that's real assessable damage. however it's true that it's best to create backups and take them with you physically when you move.

still, ups did not pay the true value of what ups mishandled and destroyed: it has a replacement cost that they are failing to supply. it is possibly, entirely their fault; unless the pc was not anchored properly in the box. packing peanuts alone will not necessarily do it as pc's are heavy.

if there was any statement of coverage up to your stated loss amount, they are liable. though maybe not if there was no statement of coverage that would include your entire amount. if they only covered your item up to a certain dollar amount, that is their limit and they don't have to pay more.

but if the coverage was a higher amount and your value loss fits within it, the customer should talk to an attorney and pursue it that way. attorneys do not charge anything up front for lawsuits to recover value. they charge after they win, make sure you get that in writing though. make sure they will charge the ups company their attorney fees as well.

Please trust me when I saw I entirely understand and agree with both UPS and the customer. But the contract that he signed when he shipped it specifically states what's covered and what's not when it comes to UPS's "Declared Value" (aka Insurance,) data and documents are not covered. If UPS loses a contract that's got $10,000 on the line, and UPS loses it, they are only to be reimbursed for the cost of the paper. So basically 20 cents, even if the package was insured for the $10,000. I am talking law here, not what's right and wrong in a perfect world.

They damaged property. He is to be reimbursed for the property. I'll say it again, DATA HAS NO PHYSICAL VALUE!!! It's invisible, you can't reach out and break it! Data is just like a thought! Yes, when put into a physical item, it is worth something, until then, it's worth nothing.

If you are trying to place blame on The UPS Store, he's even MORE out of luck. The contract (PSO) is quite possibly the best contract ever written by lawyers, it takes ALL liability away from the store. Even if they did pack it wrong.

I feel bad for the guy, but that's why you should never trust anyone, I've shipped my computer twice before and nothing ever happened (I packed it myself at my UPS Store where I work as I would any customers computer) and nothing ever happened. Once with my desktop PC and once my laptop. Every time I backed it up on my external hard drive AND online.

If he didn't do that, he's quite unfortunately out of luck.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Miklos Miq

I'm not stating that the data has any value, I am stating that the cost of recovering said data is $300 per drive.

As far as a invisible property is concerned there is such a thing as Intellectual Property which considers thoughts and intangible material as property. So yes, it does have value. Maybe not according to UPS but federal law supersedes that.

Considering that the store representative never brought this up and after speaking to the store manager himself after he admitted that the UPS reimbursement was wrong and that they should cover the full repair cost.

The data itself is backed up, although not as a ghost file, so I am still losing time from my actual job by having to repair the computer myself. The original point remains, UPS is a horrible company.
